Let’s Show Our Skin Some Love

Happy Monday Friends!
If you haven’t been able to tell, I am obsessed with skin/hair care. I can walk into any skin or hair care isle and be there for the next 30 minutes comparing deep conditioners, eye creams, exfoliators and so much more. I’m digressing, dammit! Let’s just dig in…

Exfoliation: What is it?

How many ways to exfoliate can we come up with people? The answer is hundreds. But there obviously is a reason right? Exfoliation is so valuable. Removing dead skin cells with a mildly rough materials can create a glow and decrease your chances for pimples. Now this  is something that I can get behind (Can I get an amen?). But the trick is to know which exfoliation technique is for YOU.
For example we have: Cleansing, Exfoliation gloves , Brushes, Loofah sponges/brushes, Chemical treatments (eh), Scrubs, etc.
The problem is that some of these can be expensive. So I have narrowed down my 2 favorite ways to care for your skin in an affordable way because I don’t have the spare money to be blowing on chemical treatments and microdermabrasion (microdermaWHAT?).

Dry Brushing

So I have posted this on my IG story last week if you missed that post, I have reposted the pictures here to give you a visual.IMG_1237
What is it?: Dry brushing is a technique used to

exfoliate the skin and stimulate the lymphatic system.

Why is it effective?: Stimulating the lymphatic system helps move blood throughout the body faster aka increasing blood flow which in turn gives you more energy for the day. It also loosens up dead skin cells (EW) leaving your skin smooth and buttery soft.

So what do I do?: Take 5 minutes before your morning shower and brush your skin in a circular like motion.
The whoooole body, y’all. You can even use body oil as well
to soften the skin in the process. You will definitely notice a skin glow like no other after doing this for about a week or so. Think of dry brushing as a way to shed the old skin aka toxins from your life. You’re stepping out of the shower a new person ready to take on the day, YA DIG?

So facial scrubs are one of my favorite ways to care for your skin because you can make them from HOME! Whether your skin is more on the sensitive side like me or less sensitive, there is a scrub out there for you.
How often should I scrub?: See, that will depend on your skin. Some people can do it everyday, which to me WILL NOT WORK. My skin will become dry and start regressing and we don’t want that. I would say around 2-4x a week will work for most people, but again you may want to experiment and see what works best for you!
